Sea swimming/ wild swimming really has taken the world – and Ireland – by storm in the last few years.
During the Coronovirus pandemic when all of our facilities were closed down, we took to our local seas, lakes and rivers in great numbers. We learned a secret that so many before us had already learnt: natural waters offer SO much more than chlorinated, artificial pools. The feeling of exhilaration and satisfaction experienced when plunging into the Atlantic Ocean under a beautiful red sunset or a bright full moon is really something precious.
In Ireland we are blessed with over 3000 kilometers of coastline and some of the most stunning beaches to be found anywhere in the world.
Fanad Peninsula offers plenty of options for swimming and also a number of established and welcoming groups who will be glad for you to join them for a swim. Ask Helen when you are on site and she will direct you or even take an early morning dip with you 😉 Always stay safe and swim where there is a lifeguard or with others who know the local waters. During the summer months the blue flag Magherawarden beach has a lifeguard on duty at designated times. (June- September)
